You have to hand it to One Direction! When they first appeared on The X Factor the only direction I expected them to go was down and out. It’s probably a good thing that I’m not in the record industry, eh!? Not only have the 1D scamps carved out a career on both sides of The Atlantic, a movie may be in the offing, young girls scream at them where ever they go and some older ones – well you know the stories.
What has that got to do with competitions you ask? Well, you could be joining One Direction on a flight of a lifetime if you enter the latest competition from British Airways. The flight will be to a secret location and 1D will give you VIP treatment and even serve you lunch!
The competition is to support Comic Relief and for that reason it’s SMS entry. It’s not cheap either – £3 a text! Note that you’re also limited to a maximum of three texts per phone so your 1D loving child can’t rack up a massive bill for you.
According to the terms at least half of the fee goes to Comic Relief which we think is amazingly tight. However, the terms also say “British Airways and One Direction will not benefit from any funds raised during this event” so at a guess the extras go to the phone companies and/or fueling the plane?
The terms also give a bit of an indication of the “secret location” – put it this way don’t expect to be on your way to The USA or even Europe with the boys. In fact you’re just going to be pottering out UK air space for an hour and a half – pretty much like waiting to land at Heathrow but with some popstars serving you drinks and peanuts!
There are either prizes to be won – and each prize consists of three seats in economy class. At least one person in each prize winning party must be over 18. If you don’t have a passport then don’t worry as you can use a valid photocard driving licence.
The event takes place on 21st July so make sure you’re able to get to London and free to fly with the boys before entering. You need to be quick with the texting too – the last chance to enter is the 11th July 2012.
