Could You Be A Two-Zero Hero?

Posted on: July 11th, 2012 by Jason 2 Comments

Sustrans have come up with an interesting competition that will give the kids something creative to do as well as help promote an important message about speeding! They think that speed limits around homes and schools would be better if it they were dropped from 30MPH down to 20MPH. Maybe you agree? If so then why not tell them how slower speed limits might change your life?

To enter the Two-Zero Hero Competition 7 to 11 year olds need to come up with a catchy postcard design. There’s a template to download from the site – the aim is to get the 20MPH speed message across in a creative, original and clear way. Sustrans have suggested that you could write a poem, draw a picture or even take a photo…. the choice is yours!

There are two age groups and the winners from each age group will win themselves a fantastic short family break for four from Sawday’s Canopy & Stars. There are bikes for second placed runners up with goody bags going to third place. One lucky winner from all the entries will win a fantastic BMX bike stunt display for their school, courtesy of Inspire Promotions.

The competition runs until the end of October, so there’s plenty of time to get involved. If you like getting your kids into comping then perhaps this will be a nice activity to do on a rainy day during the coming holidays (we may need to find a lot more competitions for you!!).

Schools are welcome to get involved too – there’s a cover slip so that a teacher can send in mutliple entries on behalf of their pupils.

By the way, entries will be judged so no silly vote for me problems with this one. Sustrans hope to use the winning entries to appeal to MPs and transport decision makers in getting the speed limits around homes and schools changed.

    Hmm, bit confused by this campaign as around here the speed limit is 20 near schools and a few “estates” also have 20mph limits. Local councils have had the powers to do this for years!

    Update;
    Having read the T&Cs I think this is aimed at Wales where perhaps the council powers are different to in England.
