Get Ready To Go Bonkers About Biscuits
16 Comments July 28, 2009 / Posted in CompetitionsThe dietary habits of compers are about to change yet again! After a summer of Magnums, Doritos, Galaxy, Drench, Pepsi and Strongbow it’s time to bring on the biccies as on August 17th McVitie’s are launching their Bonkers About Biscuits promotion. Save the codes from special packs of Hobnobs, Jaffa Cakes, Digestives and other McVitie’s brands and you’ll then be able to enter a daily prize draw for the chance to win a share of £5000.

According to Marketing Magazine the competition will last for 8 weeks whilst McVitie’s “search for the UK’s favourite biscuit”!
The code competitions have proven to be very popular this year and perhaps this marks a shift away from instant win on pack competitions and perhaps even entry form based prize draws, which many compers have reported as being in decline. Moving online is a sensible move for big brands as it allows them to gauge audience reaction much more effectively as well as create increased media and social buzz around their campaigns.
However, as we have seen with Magnum they need to be ran with the minimal of hitches. Let’s hope the only thing the entrant’s to the McVitie’s competition will be going bonkers is the biscuits.
Look out for those special packs and don’t forget to enter the competition from August 17th.

Ohh no, Hobnobs, I am going to resemble humpty dumpty. The things you do for a comp. hee hee
Just when I’ve recovered from too many Magnums… Oh well lol
Just for once why can’t there be comps on non-fattening foods? If I do win any cash from this it will have to go towards a visit to a fat farm!
hopefully i will be lucky with this one, we eat loads of biscuits in this house!
Noooooooooo! Today I resolved not to buy any more biscuits!
Shall I put my head above the parapet?……..These type of competitions leave me cold. They are only marginally less blatant money spinners than premium rate text comps. They amount to the same thing; the entrant is not only paying for the cost of the prize but also a tidy profit for the organizer as well.No wonder these type of comps are becoming more prevalent, they get your details, your money and to promote their product all at the same time, so it’s win, win, win for the promoter. There is obviously no limit to numbers of entries per person, so no level playing field…..there will always be people prepared to pay for more calls or eat more ice cream than you! Add to this the fact that these type of competitions encourage over expenditure, over consumption and waste and I’m happy to boycot
them. Imagine if this type of competition took over from “free” entry comps…..I say don’t encourage them!
I won’t be buying them just to do a competition but I have been buying extra packets of maynards wine gums for their competition as I buy these anyway so am just stockpiling them.
We moaned about Nutrigrain but at least they weren’t as unhealthy as this years comps seem to be. If it’s something I’m buying anyway it’s not too bad but I haven’t the money or the inclination to stockpile booze, biscuits and sweets and I certainly won’t buy what nobody likes just to enter a comp. I really wanted a Nokia but unless I find a Pepsi bottle in the street I won’t be entering that one.
ooh biscuits so glad im pregnant my waisteline is out of controll anyway may as well have few extra biscuits
Has anyone seen any packs in the shops yet? I know it does not start yet, but their blurb says “You’re too early, hang on to your pack”
I bought a promotional pack of Jaffa Cakes in Tesco’s yesterday. It was one of those huge triple-size packs (which gives me 3 entries). They’ll be giving away £5000 per day divided as follows: 1x£1000, 2x£500, 2x£250, 5x£100 and 40x£50. Runs 17/08/09 to 11/10/09.
I bought some in Redruth Tesos yesterday Pattery – Triple packs only though
Thanks for that lucidlupin, at least I know they have managed to get to Cornwall
I just won £50 with my first entry!
The main problem with these promotions is in finding flashed packs at the beginning of the promotion when you stand the best chance of winning. Unfortunately, I still have to win!
[...] in July we told you to go Bonkers About Biscuits as McVitie’s were going to be giving away £5000 a day in an instant win competition. [...]
